8th Annual
Piedmont Beer Festival
Oct. 4
Calling all local home brewers!
Piedmont Beer Festival returns to PCA on October 4
Now is the time to be sterilizing those bottles and filling them with hoppy ales and IPAs in time for the 8th Annual Piedmont Oktoberfest.
Sponsored by the Piedmont Center for the Arts, it will be held on Friday, October 4 at the Center from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event includes freshly grilled German bratwurst, German potato salad, warm red cabbage and German mustard – all donated by Piedmont Grocery owner Dave Larson.
There will be live music on the lawn.
Prizes will be awarded for the Best IPA, Best Pilsner, Best Pale Ale, and other categories determined by this year’s All-Star Judging Panel.
Judges for the October 4 event include City Administrator Sara Lillevand, Fire Chief Bret Black, Piedmont Grocery’s Dave Larson, and Purr Drummey, the head judge for the past five years.
Also signed up are Lisa and Bryan Gros, part of an active Scouting family at Corpus Christi and home brewers since 1991. They are both National Beer Judges and long term members of the Bay Area Mashers, the East Bay homebrew club. While living in Nashville, they founded the Music City Brewers and the club helped make homebrewing legal in Tennessee. Lisa has served on the board of the Northern California Homebrew Festival, held annually in the fall since 2001. Bryan was the organizer of the California State Homebrew Competition for eight years.
For those who have never tried making beer before, this is a great time to start. It is a fun family activity and nearly as easy as making bread. There are many experienced brewers in Piedmont who are willing to lend the basic supplies, books on brewing, and help get you started.
The fee for guests is $10 for a custom designed pilsner beer glass with the Center for the Arts logo, and $5 for food for the German dinner on the lawn. There is no entry fee for beermakers.
