Camille Corot

Jean Baptiste Camille Corot (1796-1875) emerged as a prominent French landscape painter in the mid 19th century. His small on-site color studies, created to be worked into large-scale exhibition pieces, were celebrated on their own right as brilliantly authentic renderings of outdoor light. For this reason, Corot, and his working method, were seen as leading to the development of the Impressionist style. Nearly every prominent member of this new painting movement lists Corot as an inspiration.

Join us at the Piedmont Center for the Arts for an illustrated lecture as we travel to Paris to gain a better appreciation of the artist and his work.
